THE DIFFERENT PARTS OF A SONG OR MUSICAL PIECE
A song or a musical
arrangement is composed of different parts; each part has its own role and use
in giving details, sequence, and enhancement to a song or musical arrangement.
Many musical composer and arranger are very particular with these parts in completing
their masterpiece; they are making sure that each part will have unique
distinctive sounds that will noticeably separate each part. They are using a
different pattern of chords and notes, mixing and blending up together until
the idea materialized. They are writing their piece little by little until it
end, this written piece will serve as a reference document and a sealed of
ownership of the composer. A usual song or musical arrangement has the intro,
part one, part two or more, chorus or refrain, ad-lib part or instrumental
part, and the bridge.
The intro part is the starting point of a
song or musical piece; it serves as the introduction that is primarily
composed of melodies such riffs or instrumental, rhythm that relates to chords
pattern, percussions such as drums to give mainly of the timing and tempo, and
hymns that refer to vocals. However, the use of these components will depend on
the musical arranger and may vary in some circumstances, like in the case of
some solo performers that plays alone. Intro sometimes is composed only of one
musical instrument that will do the introduction before entering the part one.
Part one, part two or more is the
main body and the most steady, relax, and silent
part of a song or musical piece. It is composed mainly of repeated chords and
melodic patterns that go and revolves in a cycle.
The chorus or sometimes call the refrain
part is the climax part of a song or musical piece, it is the part wherein the
rhythms, melodic, and harmonic patterns are played heavily and differently.
Unlike in the body part, the chorus is the part where you can actually feel the
emotion, attitude, and the message of the song or the musical piece. In
addition, the chorus is the part that the listener will easily remember; for
some reason, it registers in the mind very quickly and can actually copy it in
just one listening.
The ad-lib or the instrumental
part is the part where vocals are silent; it is the part where is purely musical
instruments that highlight its dynamic musicality. A brighter solo usually
uplifts it. Any instrument can do the solo of the ad-lib part; it can be a
guitar, piano, saxophone, violin, bass guitar, trumpet, flute, etc. The ad-lib
part can be the melody of the chorus, melody of the body or an
improvised freestyle or hand written note solo that separates its
musical sound from the other parts. If you are one of those guitar players,
ad-lib part is the most awaited and the most exciting part of the song or the
musical piece. It also holds the completeness and the beautification of the
whole song or musical piece.
Bridge is not the last part; it is actually
a clue or a hint at the end of the body going to the chorus and used as the
preparation in going back to the start or the body.
